That's A Wrap

November 11, 1992

Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise joined a Memphis law firm. Problem is, Bendini, Lambert & Locke was all mobbed up.

This is, of course, the fiction of writer John Grisham, whose book, The Firm, was turned into a movie filmed in Memphis to the amusement of the curious who went to great lengths just to get a peak at filming.

Tranquil, tree-lined Tuckahoe Lane awoke to lights, cameras and action Monday as filming of The Firm got underway … For all the anticipation of filming, though, it won’t be much of a spectator sport. Set locations are closed to the public and have heavy security, but some Galloway Park area residents had a pretty good line of sight.

Neighbors stood on front lawns craning for a glimpse of Cruise and Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack at work.

Just one man’s opinion, but Gene Hackman was the real star on this set.
