Pardon Me, Ray

June 10, 1981

Former Gov. Ray Blanton was found guilty Tuesday night on all charges of a federal indictment that said he ran a scheme out of the governor’s office to award liquor licenses to friends and extort a share of the profits.

The first chief executive ever convicted of a crime in Tennessee, Blanton sat rigidly in his chair as the court heard what the jury found in more than seven weeks in trial and six days of deliberation.
