Revved Up

February 15, 1911

It’s a big deal when the city hosts its first auto show, just a few years after the first Model A, so 1,000 spectators — especially the “flower of Memphis society” — were at The Auditorium on opening night to see the new cars and hear the symphony. The cars paraded along city streets a day earlier, led with a military band (in cars) and, of course, politicians.

The exhibits at the Memphis show easily are the most elaborate and complete ever shown in the South and will compare favorably with those heretofore shown in the automobile shows of the large Northern and Eastern cities.
