That edition was preceded with a "war extra" that sold 20,000 copies in three hours, a sales record that eclipsed the 15,000 papers sold to announce the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby. (The last extra published by The CA was Jan. 28, 1986, when the space shuttle Challenger exploded, killing seven.)
