Rest For The Weary

April 30, 1891

ELECTRIC STREET CARS COMING SOON

The electric street railway system for this city, now so near completion, is the pride and joy of every Memphian.

The 600 or 700 weary mules employed in the old out-of-date service will soon have a rest. If such a thing were possible, all men would speed the parting guests, but there is no such thing as speed in them.

C.W. Shoults drives a mulecar, Memphis's first streetcar, on the Vance and Poplar line. Mulecars were used from 1866-1891. (The Commercial Appeal)
