Memphis had a well-earned reputation as dangerous, as a murder capital, but when two deputies were killed in a raid on a gambling joint, a newspaper editorial pleaded for criminal prosecution to end "orgies of lawlessness which have so long disgraced the community."

The shooting down of officers in a crap dive by those who are notorious violators of the law is "the limit." Surely, we have reached the climax.
